Canadian financial group moves to Web services to meet MIB requirement; Pervasive offers ACORD XML solution

SSQ Financial Group is also a member of MIB Group, Inc. (“MIB”), an association of more than 500 U.S. and Canadian life insurance companies providing information and database management services to the financial services industry.
When MIB announced that it was changing from a legacy system to Web services for data exchange with its member companies, SSQ Financial Group sought a solution that would be low cost, easy to modify and meet the MIB-required ACORD XML format. In the company’s review of data infrastructure companies to provide an integration solution, Pervasive Software was a standout—Pervasive staff intimately knew ACORD XML and they knew how to simplify the transition for SSQ.
Technical knowledge, expense concerns
MIB’s e-technology commitment to use the Internet to deliver efficient, high-performance and secure information services to its members required that SSQ Financial Group convert to the ACORD XML format when sending and receiving data. SSQ Financial Group staff had little experience working with the required format, and time was pressing.
They feared the task would be enormous, as well as expensive. The prospect of a large-scale in-house project was daunting, particularly since the SSQ Financial Group team had relatively little ACORD XML experience. Another option was to purchase an expensive “black box” solution, which would prove even more expensive when maintenance or updates to the MIB transaction process were needed. Fortunately, SSQ Financial Group discovered another option.

Having worked with Pervasive in the past, SSQ Financial Group knew the company offered an easy-to-use, cost-effective alternative for data and application integration. DETAILS
1) SSQ Financial Group User enters the plan member’s first name, last name, birth date, etc. and then the Web application
transmits them to the SSQ-MIB Request Queue.
2) A listener process listens on the MIB Request Queue for a MQ Message that contains the parameters.
3) Pervasive Data Integrator transforms the parameters into an ACORD XML MIB request.
4) The MIB Web Services are called through a Java process.
5) The ACORD XML MIB response received by the Java process is converted into SSQ’s format through Pervasive Data Integrator.
6) The converted response is then transmitted to the SSQ-MIB Response Queue.
7) The Web application listens on the SSQ-MIB Response queue to get the response.
