ERO software company sees advantages of repeatable integration

Pointserve is an Austin-based company delivering Economic Resource Optimization (ERO) software for businesses predominately needing solutions for managing distributed resources, third-party service networks, equipment dealer networks and fleets of various types. Pointserve’s ERO solutions enable customers to predict demand, then plan, schedule and execute in a way that maximizes value across their extended enterprise. A growing number of sales, service and delivery related companies have turned to Pointserve, resulting in improved field operations and cost savings — not to mention happier, more satisfied customers, employees and managers.

Pointserve recognized a strategic opportunity to address the small and mid-sized mobile services market with a SaaS-based scheduling offering – but a key component of any solution to the SMB market is ease of integration. To expand its addressable market, Pointserve needed to offer rapid, repeatable integration at a low cost. Pointserve capitalized on Pervasive Data Integrator™ to capitalize on the opportunity.

A need for loosely coupled, embeddable integration to increase market

Traditionally Pointserve has provided optimized planning and scheduling for companies with large, distributed workforces. However, of 10-15 million mobile service workers in the U.S., fewer than two million work for organizations that provide mobile integration. “To provide a SaaS offering that would increase the size of our addressable market, we absolutely needed integration that was lightweight, loosely coupled, very fast, and able to be deployed at a customer site where there is no one with IT background,” noted Ed Powell, Pointserve CEO.

“The SMB services space is a huge, untapped market for Economic Resource Optimization, but those companies require immediate payback, and have no IT staff to manage applications on-site,” said Powell. He added that “in order to succeed, you must have incredibly fast, robust deployment and integration. If we did everything else right but failed to drive down integration time and cost, our opportunity would diminish significantly. Pervasive is providing a critical component of our solution.” Looking at other options, Pointserve found most integration options did not offer loosely coupled lightweight, embeddable integration with templates to speed and optimize reuse. Pervasive® Data Integrator™, however, was right on target.

Savings with depth of connectivity, scalability

Looking into Pervasive’s integration solution offerings, Pointserve discovered compelling products that achieved high ROI and an expert staff that could assist in improving the company’s SaaS service optimization offering. Pervasive Data Integrator provided the savings, depth of data connectivity and scalability to thrive in Pointserve’s environment. “We’re leveraging a distributed, Service-Oriented Architecture and providing visibility across different organizational structures, workflows, preferences, data and application types — and it’s all got to work and it’s got to be extensible. Pervasive was selected because it’s one of the best tools on the market to minimize cost and time for integration, and provide great reliability for mission-critical data,” Powell pointed out.

Pointserve with Pervasive make ERO SaaS work well

Pointserve’s strategic vision is clear. Having proven the power of its Economic Resource Optimization in many large companies with distributed networks, the company is well-positioned to tap into other large areas of the market with a rapid, affordable SaaS-based model. As Ed Powell emphasized, “The difference between large service companies and small ones is infrastructure. From an operational perspective, large service companies are typically networks of small entities. We have a customer which is financially a $1 billion dollar home service company.”

Operationally, it is several hundred $2M-$10M branch operations where Pointserve is reducing mileage by 600-1,000 miles per tech per month – even in branches where they have only five technicians. These savings add up to approximately two million miles per month or 40% of their previous mileage, but they are delivered in very small entities. Powell said, “A SaaS approach really opens up the SMB market. Many prospects we will engage are currently using completely manual process with note cards, pads of paper, white boards and fax machines. If we can reach these companies with immediate cost savings and an easy-to-use platform, we’re creating a strong value proposition. To this end, the ability to integrate quickly with low cost is critical to attacking this market. Therefore, Pervasive integration is a strategic complement to our ERO product.”

Optimizing SaaS, Pervasive integration

Pointserve’s vision is based on the daily realities service businesses face: to stay competitive, real-time workflow distribution is a must-have. This is particularly true of the small- and medium-sized service companies that maintain mobile fleets. Pointserve CEO Ed Powell said, “Smaller and medium companies can get the benefits of mobile automation using Pointserve’s hosted model, and the Pervasive® integration architecture is optimized for our repeatable, rapid SaaS approach.

“For so many service businesses, Pointserve can provide them with a sustainable competitive advantage. Effective service delivery translates into improved customer acquisition, retention and renewals, and that’s the lifeblood of a successful service business,” Powell noted.
