Pediatrix improves communications between internal applications and its clearinghouse with Pervasive

Pediatrix Medical Group is the nation’s leading physician group practice providing subspecialty care to high-risk pregnant mothers, newborns and children. Pediatrix employs more than 860 physicians and 350 advanced practitioners in 32 states and Puerto Rico, who work together to identify best practices, enhance patient outcomes and provide high-quality, cost-effective care. When Pediatrix needed an integration tool that would enable faster communications between its internal applications and its clearinghouse, Pervasive Data Integrator provided an interface that translated data from different, complex sources into one standard report–reducing the time and resources needed to process and resubmit rejected claims reports.

Slow process flow; lack of flexibility in application integration 

Pediatrix sends insurance claims to several clearinghouses and receives claims status reports back, each with differing and complex formats. It was a challenge to handle this information through standardized business processes, and the company needed to create an efficient and reliable interface between integrated applications. Pediatrix, as a stated goal, wanted to speed its core development process so its reports could be posted faster and more efficiently. However, developers at the company were frequently forced to decipher code to define process, losing valuable time, and they wanted to find a better way to provide process flow information. The company required a cost-effective process design tool that had flexibility and scalability.

With Pervasive Data Integrator, Pediatrix now has a unique, event-driven, message-based infrastructure that allows for the integration of multiple applications. Pervasive software offers connectivity to a range of data sources, despite the varying formats of the clearinghouse reports. “With Pervasive, we create mapping for each of the reports and form them into a single database table that users can process,” says Pediatrix Director of Applications Jennifer Arriza. “It takes five minutes to run the report and there is only one report to process; it is uniform and much easier to manage.”

Time is now on Pediatrix' side as core processes improve

Pediatrix finds that its core processes no longer have to be recoded because Pervasive Data Integrator requires that only the transformations be adjusted. The time it took to run reports now has decreased by 80 percent. As a result, Pediatrix can resubmit claims rejections in a much timelier manner, and improve its accounting receivables operation. Overall, with Pervasive there’s less risk for error, more potential for automation, and significant time savings, allowing this medical group to focus on other priorities.
