Taking better control of data with Pervasive
As a leading integrated payment processing company in a highly competitive market, Payment Processing, Inc. (PPI) is always searching for ways to better understand and serve its clients. Although its clients never see PPI’s back office operations, they do expect a superior level of service. PPI wanted to streamline its processing to enable it to become more self-reliant, developing its own applications and transforming its own data for quicker results. It turned to Pervasive to help it gain control over its own client data, bringing PPI even closer to its clients and enabling it to respond to client needs faster, more efficiently and with less risk for error.
To transfer data while minimizing user error
In an initiative to better understand and serve its customers, Payment Processing Inc. (PPI) recently adopted an online customer relationship management (CRM) system from Salesforce. Since all of PPI’s partner, vendor and merchant information are stored on Salesforce.com’s Web-based system, PPI sought a quick, efficient tool for transferring its data from Salesforce to PPI’s internal data warehouse for manipulation and reporting. Further, the solution PPI sought would need to have scalable components that could be utilized to transfer data between multiple data applications and the data warehouse.
Process Designer and Map Designer reduce errors, free PPI developers from manual coding
Upon recommendation by Salesforce, Payment Processing Inc. (PPI) chose Pervasive Data Integrator for its ease of installation and implementation and its comprehensive solution. “This was our first experience with an integration tool,” says David McMath, database administrator and software engineer at PPI. “Pervasive Data Integrator was remarkably easy to use and self-explanatory. Any questions were quickly answered by Pervasive’s Help Desk.”
Pervasive Data Integrator provides PPI with a unique, real-time, event-driven, message-based infrastructure and can connect to a wide range of data sources. Two powerful tools exist within Pervasive Data Integrator: Map Designer and Process Designer. Map Designer is a data map and transformation designer, providing a visually appealing user interface and Wizards for increased simplicity. Process Designer has an intuitive interface available for “drag-and-drop” integration process design.
Using simple flowchart symbols, PPI can use Process Designer to link multi-step integration processes together in a single, automated integration task. “Pervasive software eliminates the need for our developers to spend time manually coding and recoding each data transformation and writing applications to move data,” explains McMath. “Instead, developers can create and reuse a single map that can be minimally modified for separate transformations. Once the original map is developed, the majority of the data transfers will be automated, saving us hundreds of hours of coding and writing.”
Pervasive supplies Salesforce data extraction, data load
Pervasive Data Integrator gives Payment Processing Inc. (PPI) the ability to extract or load data from Salesforce at will. “Updates are quick and simple because there is a main point of entry where one piece of data can be altered in a single location and it’s automatically adjusted in every other location,” says David McMath, PPI database administrator and software engineer. “Pervasive Data Integrator makes our jobs easier because we don’t have to worry about missed edits or user error.”
Before using Pervasive, developers at PPI had to rely on consultants to move certain data, taking time to specify which data to transfer to or from each internal application or data warehouse. “A single request could take up to a day to be fulfilled,” recalls McMath.
“Pervasive Data Integrator enables our developers to create a map in less than 30 minutes and have data moved instantly. Because we can get the data faster, we can manipulate it to run reports faster and more frequently.” The flexibility of Pervasive Data Integrator enables PPI to use it to extract data from other applications to the data warehouse as well. “With Pervasive Data Integrator we can transfer data to or from virtually any data source,” McMath says. “It has provided us with capabilities we just didn’t have before, even helping us manage new business leads and reduce attrition.”
PPI gains greater self-reliance from Pervasive
Payment Processing Inc. (PPI) expects to see significant direct ROI in the near future and has already received indirect benefits. With Pervasive, the company is able to meet its own internal needs faster and at a lower cost. Because it can now migrate data between Salesforce and its data warehouse, PPI better understands how Salesforce operates and is more capable of writing its own proprietary applications that work with Salesforce. “We used to pay third-party developers around $12,000 for each application,” says PPI Database Administrator and Software Engineer David McMath.“We also spent valuable time explaining to them what we needed. Now, we pay our developers to create the application in-house, saving time and money for PPI.”
McMath summarizes the real benefits of Pervasive Data Integrator: “Thanks to Pervasive Data Integrator, we have better access to and more control over our data, helping us become more self reliant, efficient and productive. Now our immediate needs for data reporting are satisfied today, instead of tomorrow.”
