Custom code fails to meet vertical markets' requirements

FAMIS Software wanted to help its customers achieve quick and accurate data migration and cost-effective integration to a variety of back-office systems. Historically, FAMIS Software relied on its own proprietary integration technology. However, FAMIS Software faced increasing challenges in creating custom code to effectively address its different vertical markets, and maintenance and updates were proving costly. Rather than continue to invest large amounts of time, expense and resources to update and maintain proprietary integration, the company sought an alternative approach. It would need to be cost-effective, it needed to be seamlessly embeddable inside FAMIS Software’s applications, and it had to offer integration capabilities that would allow their applications to quickly and affordably integrate with other systems such as financial, ERP, facilities management and various other legacy and IT systems with a range of data formats.

FAMIS Software embedded Pervasive Data Integrator in its flagship product, FAMIS Xi & FAMIS 8i. The company now can offer rapid, affordable data migration and ongoing application integration to transfer information between disparate systems as a key competitive differentiator. In addition, FAMIS Software is equipped to deliver more agile and cost-effective integration capabilities to customers that have come to expect flexibility in a service-oriented architecture (SOA) environment.

In the case of the University of Connecticut, a major project for FAMIS Software that has led to increased recognition of the company’s capabilities, Pervasive Data Integrator helped migrate and integrate flat files generated from a FRS mainframe into FAMIS Software. Not only did Pervasive Data Integrator allow read and creation of multirecord flat files, FAMIS Software consultants quickly and easily mapped FAMIS Software to legacy files using table and form triggers. Consultants also liked the ability to quickly test and validate processes using Pervasive. Pleased with the experience for both FAMIS Software and the University, Levenstein points out that the university of Connecticut can now rely on scheduled bi-directional data integration. For this customer and others, FAMIS Software now can create on-demand interfaces, conduct error logging and archiving, provide more secure FTP transfers and run Oracle code from Pervasive interfaces.
