Reliable
Today, Steve LaBorde notes, he no longer worries about processes failing. "Once we implement a new process, Pervasive Data Integrator just runs."
Flexible
Pervasive provides a wide range of connectivity in order to meet the needs of internal consumers, third parties, and regulatory reporting, and a wide range of capabilities, making it suitable for multiple projects within an enterprise.
Easy to Use
Pervasive allows documentation of steps within the processes, making it easy to learn. Now that multiple in-house people understand how to use the tool—they can tweak and update it themselves.
Efficient
Pervasive reusability has allowed East Jefferson to improve internal IT operations quickly, without having to learn a whole new toolset to solve this new challenge. "We’re also much more productive because it’s so easy to create new objects in the warehouse."

Interfacing Cerner with Hospital Data Warehouse
When East Jefferson General Hospital began rolling out its new Cerner hospital information system and needed to interface it with its Oracle data warehouse, Oracle DBA Steve LaBorde knew that he wanted to replace the existing brittle custom integration system with a flexible, reliable, reusable approach. He also knew the perfect product to achieve his goals: Pervasive® Data Integrator™.
Proven Pervasive technology used to solve new challenge
"Without a second thought, I knew we would use Pervasive Data Integrator," says Steve LaBorde, who was already familiar with the software from earlier projects. LaBorde was eager to replace the existing system used to load data from multiple sources into East Jefferson’s data warehouse, updating some 800,000-1.2 million rows daily. "The proprietary processes were difficult to change and we would have failure almost daily. "
As the Cerner implementation moved forward, LaBorde created Pervasive maps and processes to get data into the data warehouse from the Cerner system as well as multiple ancillary data systems that reside on different database platforms. LaBorde also used Pervasive Data Integrator to extract data for internal consumers, third parties, and regulatory reporting.
A Boost to Productivity
Today, Steve LaBorde notes, he no longer worries about processes failing. "Once we implement a new process, Pervasive Data Integrator just runs. Plus, Pervasive allows us to document process steps, and now multiple in-house people understand how to use the tool—they can tweak and update it themselves. We’re also much more productive because it’s so easy to create new objects in the warehouse."
A Boost for BI
East Jefferson’s IT team, outsourced to Phoenix Health Systems, Inc., is now more effective in helping their business intelligence users quickly and easily get the information they need. Steve LaBorde points out, "We’ve probably doubled the number of objects in the warehouse since going live with Cerner in July 2006. With the new agile approach, the data is more accessible than it used to be. On the BI end we can now allow hospital personnel to see many more objects in the data warehouse. Once someone identifies a need for a new object, we can respond much faster than we used to. If there’s a change in the business, we can reflect that quickly in the BI environment."
