Daptiv Connect handles complex siloed data—without costly, time-consuming custom coding
Seattle-based Daptiv is an on-demand leader in collaborative business software that enables companies to transform mid-office business operations, reducing the complexity of managing multiple teams, projects and tasks and bringing visibility into project, program and portfolio execution. Its flagship product, Daptiv PPM, is an on-demand project and portfolio management and collaboration solution with work intelligence. The application aggregates and analyzes data from what are traditionally a range of siloed systems. Daptiv, however, found its customers often faced setbacks in integrating systems with their application, and decided to develop a solution. Pervasive, in addition, offers an OEM model that is easily scalable and suited to Daptiv, as opposed to vendors that require racking another server every time a new customer is added. Daptiv’s embedded Pervasive integration technology was highlighted as a strength when it was recently placed in the leader quadrant by a leading industry analyst firm.
High-capability integration without custom code
Highly capable integration is critically important to Daptiv’s success. The company needed to enable the flow of critical data to and from all of the other systems inside an organization and integrate with other line-of-business applications/systems such as financial systems, human resources information, help desk, trouble ticketing, and IT asset management and ERP systems such as Tivoli, Remedy, SAP and PeopleSoft. Daptiv Vice President of Professional Services Chris Broyles says, “Nearly every customer we spoke with, especially the large organizations, realized that there was data in disparate systems and they needed to be able to pull it all together. We had Web services that allowed you to do that. But every conversation we got into with customers revolved around writing code to integrate with the Web services. I wanted to be able to really tell our customers, ‘Yes, we have a solution’ instead of saying basically, ‘Write some code and you can connect to us, or we’ll write code for you to connect to us.’”
Pervasive MCF plays important role in Daptiv's Web services push
Pervasive’s flexible Message Component Framework (MCF) played an important role in bringing a solution to Daptiv. As Broyles explains, “We have Web services, but our Web services weren’t necessarily architected ideally to be consumed by other applications. With the flexible Pervasive component architecture, we were able to overcome that and wrap our Web services. It took only a couple of weeks for one Pervasive consultant to be able to create an all-purpose connector for Daptiv so that we could go to market.”
With a new invoker for Daptiv in place, the company uses a simple process for transferring data between Daptiv and any other application, regardless of format. Pervasive Data Integrator’s 150+ prebuilt connectors now allow Daptiv to go to customers with a quick-ramping Web service solution to integration as opposed to writing costly and time-consuming code. No matter what needs to be integrated, Daptiv Connect can handle it – “no matter the environment,” as Broyles says. Daptiv is an extremely satisfied partner. Besides robust connectivity, Daptiv has other tools in its arsenal, thanks to Pervasive: event triggering, scheduling and transaction monitoring of exception alerts.

Faster implementation for customers
Daptiv has been able to on-ramp new customers in two days; customer implementations are now 15-30 times faster than before. Broyles points out, “The ability to leverage Pervasive Data Profiler™, Pervasive Data Integrator, the Integration Engine and all of the monitoring tools was the key.”
Broyles further says, “The ease of use and simplicity of those tools together provided us with the opportunity to deliver integration to our clients at a fraction of the cost of custom writing connectors for each implementation. It took me four months to have a contractor develop a utility for us using our Web services just to bulk import projects. And now, this is something that I can do with Pervasive-powered Daptiv Connect within two days.”
Multi-tenancy, scalability fit Daptiv's growth plan
Broyles says, "Looking ahead, the Pervasive Integration Engine allows us to support multi-tenancy and scalability as we roll out more integrations. Even when new features are introduced on either side of the integration path."
