LA County project calls for Pervasive's parallel engines, easy design capabilities

As an IT consulting and management company, CGI-AMS must carefully choose the partners it sometimes requires to implement its products, services or recommendations. When Los Angeles County selected AMS Advantage 3 Financial Management, CGI-AMS needed to collaborate with an integration provider that could offer the necessary tools to connect the County’s departments with the new system being implemented. Among CGI-AMS’ product offerings are its AMS Advantage 3 applications that include module-based solutions such as AMS Advantage 3 Financial Management and AMS Advantage 3 Human Resources Management. Both programs automate workflow, provide Web-based access to reliable information, and streamline processes and procedures.

The largest county in the United States, Los Angeles County awarded CGI-AMS Inc. a contract in 2004 for the implementation of AMS Advantage 3 Financial Management to help the county provide residents and employees with improved, more efficient services. But the deployment of AMS Advantage solutions required an integration tool to connect the Advantage application with Los Angeles County’s various legacy databases. With large amounts of data to process nightly, Los Angeles County needed a tool that could also help it increase the throughput in a reasonable amount of time. As an established Pervasive partner, CGI-AMS again chose Pervasive Data Integrator for the map designing and development as well as its integration engine for rapid production. Both enable the initial aggregation and migration of data and subsequent ongoing integration of data between the Los Angeles County Departmental System and the AMS Advantage applications. Pervasive Data Integrator is an ETL and data integration product that saves and stores all design metadata in an open XML-based design repository for fast metadata interchange and reuse.

In fact, CGI-AMS reports Los Angeles County is now able to process data from 44 sources on average in a nightly batch cycle, with an average size of 22,500 documents per night. The entire interface process is run every night and takes less than two hours. Pervasive Data Integrator is also utilized to build the Reporting Data Warehouse in an incremental mode daily.
