Reliable HL7 Integration

Illinois-based AthletiCo, a leader in physical and occupational therapy generally covered by health insurance, had a critical need for fast, reliable and inexpensive HL7 integration that connected their patients’ electronic medical records to their insurance company, in order to eliminate bottlenecks that were causing serious customer satisfaction issues.

As AthletiCo’s business grew to include more than 50 store locations, they realized it was time to implement a new cost effective HL7 integration application to improve their current processes.

AthletiCo purchased Pervasive Data Integrator™, and got the HL7 exchange configured after less than four hours on the phone with Pervasive Professional Services. They were amazed by the reduction in processing time and cost savings, and immediately thought of other uses for the new software.

Cutting the Cost of Integration with Universal Connectivity

AthletiCo needed to deploy a new HL7 integration application to cut costs and process integration in real time. AthletiCo also needed to adjust their receipt processing. Due to the lack of connectivity to Allscripts, patient receipts had to be handwritten.

Nick Tsatsis, Chief Operating Officer for AthletiCo, said “With our previous process, the whole thing was a mess. Our costs were high and our customers had to wait at least half an hour for us to handwrite receipts for their services.”

Time Saving Solutions

AthletiCo used Allscripts to import and export HL7 patient data, as well as to export text and XML files for use in three separate applications. Queries against the SQL Server database to accommodate these other applications could take as long as a day.

With less than four hours spent on the phone with Pervasive Professional Services, AthletiCo’s IT team was able to get their HL7 mapping configured, and finished the rest of the integrations without the need for training or additional assistance from Pervasive. The solution was implemented in less than three weeks total.

Tsatsis summarized the process, “Once HL7 was figured out the rest was simple. Professional Services was great too – we basically paid for four hours of support, went through it together, played around with it a bit, got our questions answered and were good to go.”

Faster Data Processing

Tsatsis raves about how fast the software is: “Pervasive’s HL7 engine is way faster than anything we have used before – easily five times faster than any other HL7 application we have used. The first time I ran a full export, I didn’t think it did anything, but I checked. It processed in less than 10 seconds, and we have like 200,000 records in there.”

With Pervasive, database queries that previously took all day to run, now run in 30 minutes.
