Pervasive Connects to Virtually Everything

With the never-ending proliferation of new data, applications, databases and standards, and increasingly heterogeneous technical environments, how can any vendor claim to provide a way to connect to virtually anything? Well, no vendor can, if they only use a single connectivity method or strategy.

Pervasive already offers the industry's broadest array of prebuilt data connectors.  The Pervasive Connectivity Center provides constant, up-to-date information on the rapidly expanding list.  But that isn't always enough.  Open and extensible connectivity is required, as well as the ability to take advantage of multiple connectivity options.

Pervasive's Universal CONNECT!™ is the industry's first initiative to provide comprehensive connectivity to virtually anything - from legacy to SaaS applications, data files to databases, Web to mainframe. Total connectivity to nearly every on-premises or on-demand application or data source.

Whatever it is, Pervasive's goal is to connect to it and integrate it.

You want to know if we can connect to your data? The answer is yes. You want to know how? Keep reading.

Multiple Options for Connecting

Part of our strategy for connecting to virtually everything is to have more than one way to connect to virtually anything. Multiple options for connectivity means that if one avenue won't work in the particular integration scenario or with the particular data you're dealing with, then there are always other alternatives.  Having options also means that you can choose the connecitivity strategy that gives the highest performance for your integration.

Pervasive Connectivity Options

If you need tightly coupled connectivity, that's already available for hundreds of applications and databases.  If we don't have a direct, native adapter to your application already, and none of the other options like ODBC or intermediate files will satisfy your needs, then our MCF and DMS frameworks make creating one a simple matter of a few weeks.

If you need message based or web services based loosely coupled connectivity, we have that, too.  Pervasive supports a wide variety of technologies and web standards, connects to SaaS applications as easily as on-premises applications, and generally has the best connectivity story in the business.

Pervasive Can Connect to Virtually Anything Right Out of the Box

Pervasive has the strongest connectivity in the industry - connectivity to thousands of popular on-premises and on-demand applications and data sources. See Data Connectors for a sorted list of prebuilt connectors.

With more than 20 years of experience solving the most difficult integration challenges, Pervasive has become the industry expert at integrating even the most unusual data sources, and has developed a range of cutting-edge tools and strategies to get at tough-to-reach data - regardless of format, platform or interface.

Pervasive offers comprehensive connectivity options for many categories of data and applications, including:

Adding New Connectivity

When Pervasive's wide array of prebuilt connectors just aren't enough, Pervasive Data Mediation Services (DMS) is a technology for extending the connectivity of Pervasive software. DMS connectors are embedded in the Pervasive Integration Engine™ making them usable in all Pervasive integration products. DMS connectors show up in the drop-down list in the Map Designer interface and will display all the properties and metadata, as well as the data itself in the browsers, just like the prebuilt connectors.

DMS Connectors

  • Are Service Data Objects (SDO) compliant
  • Enable create, retrieve, update and delete (CRUD) operations
  • Focuse on extracting and loading large sets of record-oriented data including relational, hierarchical and multirecord types
  • Are well-suited to remote, disconnected or asynchronous environments such as Web services or SOA architectures

Internally, Pervasive has used the DMS technology to create its own connection adapters for various applications. ISVs, SaaS vendors, and system integrators can use the DMS SDK to build new connection adapters for any specific application, including their own. The DMS SDK provides:

  • Java classes for data manipulation
  • Helper functions to make it easy to generate or consume the SDO objects used to handle data
  • A sample connection adapter for JDBC Derby to help make the implementation of this technology more transparent

Process Flow Plug-Ins and Extensions

The Message Component Framework (MCF) is a framework for using Java to make components, or plug-ins, to extend Pervasive functionality. The MCF Component Tool is an Eclipse platform tool that provides simple wizards to create the skeleton code for the six types of MCF components. Components are useful to developers, system integrators, ISVs and solution providers as a quick method to create new reusable services for data integration projects, or for any customer who needs additional functionality.

Once MCF components have been created, they can be dropped into the appropriate directory and immediately used within the Process Designer interface as if they were a standard part of the Pervasive software suite. MCF allows development of components to process a variety of message objects with binary or string content.

  • Uniform runtime environment for message handling and services during integration process execution
  • Manages component life cycle and actions
  • Simplifies component creation by eliminating many component and message object management issues

Quote"Customers and prospects today expect a new vendor to integrate seamlessly with all their systems, including SOA-based applications. We need a solution that can affordably speed data exchange between disparate systems and applications without placing any burden on the customer. Pervasive Data Integrator allows us to deliver on that expectation and turn integration into a competitive advantage, today and in the future."
